"Plus Size" does not mean "Curvy"

I remember when I was a teenager, or even in my early 20's that there were NO cute plus size clothes for my age group. My options were pretty much Lane Bryant, some American Eagle and Old Navy. Not too much variety, and the worst part was nothing ever fit me right.

No wonder I hated my body so much.

Now, there are tons of great options available for plus size ladies. Torrid, ModCloth, even Target just launched a sassy new line called Ava and Viv..with tons of cute clothing.

The problem? Clothing designers things "plus size" means "curvy."

I am not curvy. If you look at me from the back, there is not a single curve on my body. I have a tiny bottom, a small chest (when compared to the rest of me) and I carry all my weight in the middle. I've had my body called "round" "circular." I often get asked if I'm pregnant.

Lots of plus size fashion is loose. That makes me look twice my weight. If it's clingy, I look pregnant. Pants are constantly falling down because I have no hips to hold them up. They sag on my butt. It's really pretty sucky. Especially because I have fairly nice legs with lots of muscle from years of dancing. I'd like to show them off. My butt is little but round - I'd like to show it off too!

I looked to tons of fashion blogs for advice on dressing my body and haven't found one that talks about dressing my shape. Hence, this blog.

Because I know I'm not the only lady out there with this problem.

I've realized over the years that there is no way to camoflauge my tummy. It's just there. But I can dress in a way that draws attention to other areas of my body. And I will share that information with you.
